Personal Statement Samples

Personal Statement Sample - 1:
This personal statement is written for admission in MSc Financial Mathematics.

I did MSc in Mathematics; one year program, after BSc (honors) that was three year program; a total of sixteen year of education. I studied all major courses in Mathematics (Like, Calculus, Abstract and Linear Algebra, Ordinary and Partial Differential Equations, Real and Complex Analysis, Mechanics etc) and Statistics (Like, Statistical Methods, Probability and Probability Distribution, Conditional Probability and Stochastic Independence, Time Series, Sampling and Decision Making etc) with Operation Research and Numerical Analysis. In the final semester of our MSc, we studied Markov Decision Analysis, Queuing Theory and Game Theory as an independent study. During in-depth study of these topics my interest developed in the Finance side and I decided to take admission in “MSc in Financial Mathematics”.

Besides, I have also passed two papers: Functional English and Quantitative Methods from The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan. In Quantitative Methods, with Statistics we also studied Business Applications of Calculus and Interest Rate Theory.

I was selected as a trainee in Government’s funded Teacher Training Program (from January 2009 to June 2009). We studied Pedagogical Skills Development, Project Based Learning, Mathematics Education and English Skills Development. Our main focus was on “students centered teaching” (how to engage students in learning?).

I also passed Federal Public Service Commission's Competitive Exam for Lecturer in Mathematics. Currently I am teaching Mathematics at intermediate level (equivalent to A-Level) in FG Inter College Jhelum Cantt. Besides, I have also developed and have been maintaining the College’s website www.fgcollege.org. I also work voluntarily for Pakistan’s most emerging Educational Society; Society of Higher Education & Industrial Research. I have developed and maintain the Society’s website www.sheir.org.

I am eager to pursue research in “Mathematics for Finance” and decided to take admission in “MSc in Financial Mathematics”, because this program will enhance my knowledge in the field and will bridge the gap between taught program and research work. I hope after completing this program I will be able to start research work.

Waiting eagerly for the outcome of this application.
